Monodromy of rational singularities and mixed-characteristic degenerations

Given a smooth proper surface over a p-adic field, we investigate some links between its mod p degenerations and Galois monodromy actions on its etale cohomology. The particular case treated here is that of a surface acquiring rational singularities mod p. We will use a mixed-characteristic incarnation of the Grothendieck-Brieskorn resolution and Springer correspondence to describe the local monodromy representations, following ideas of Borho, Lusztig and MacPherson.
