This talk is based on a joint work with Zaher Hani and Jalal Shatah. I will start by briefly reviewing the wave kinetic theory for the NLS in the (space) homogeneous setting, offering a heuristic generalization of this theory to the inhomogeneous setting, and discussing associated challenges. Next, I will introduce the Wick NLS as a renormalization of the NLS. For this renormalized model, the inhomogeneous theory can be made rigorous, which allows us to obtain, in this framework, wave kinetic equations for various kinetic limits and at different levels of microlocalization.
