I will start by introducing some background and motivations for spectral estimates on manifolds. I will then present an original spectral estimate result on the hyperbolic half-plane (the first of its kind in a non-Euclidean setting) and briefly sketch its proof. The tools used come from harmonic analysis, control of PDEs and basic geometry, but no knowledge of these fields is required to follow the talk.
